Biography
Mae Flexer is a Democratic State Senator representing Connecticut's 29th District, which includes the towns of Brooklyn, Canterbury, Killingly, Mansfield, Pomfret, Putnam, Scotland, Thompson, and Windham. She currently serves as Deputy President Pro Tempore and Federal Relations Liaison. Flexer was sworn into the Senate in January 2015 after serving three terms in the Connecticut House of Representatives for the 44th Assembly District . Notable achievements include authoring the 2019 "Time’s Up Act" to strengthen sexual harassment penalties and extend statutes of limitations for sexual assault; championing affirmative consent standards in higher education; securing resources for domestic violence response like 24/7 shelter staffing and GPS monitoring for offenders; mandating firearm retrieval from domestic violence offenders; leading Connecticut's entry into the National Popular Vote Compact in 2018; and passing financial aid access for undocumented students at public colleges.
Education and Political Experience
Flexer previously worked as a legislative aide to Senate President Pro Tempore Donald Williams. She serves on the Senate Chair of the Government Administration & Elections Committee, Senate Vice-Chair of the Higher Education & Employment Advancement Committee, and as a member of the Appropriations, Judiciary, Education, and Veterans and Military Affairs Committees. She is also involved with the Access Agency Board of Directors, Northeast Communities Against Substance Abuse Board of Directors, and Saint James Church. Her tenure in the Senate continues through 2027.
