Biography

MD Rahman

MD Masudur Rahman is an American politician and entrepreneur from Manchester, Connecticut. He immigrated to the United States from Bangladesh approximately 25 years before his election to public office, arriving with limited resources. His early work included positions as a waiter before he eventually built a small import/export company that grew into multiple successful enterprises.

Rahman is married to Yelena and has three children: Anushka, Amelia, and Akash. He is deeply committed to community service, having founded the Bangladesh Bhaban Community Center in Manchester in 2021, which provides English as a second language classes, citizenship preparation, rent assistance workshops, and food distribution services. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he secured and distributed personal protective equipment and vaccines through the community center.

Education

Rahman holds a degree in Business and Accounting from Commilla Government Commerce College in Bangladesh.

Political Experience

Current Positions
Rahman serves as the State Senator for Connecticut's 4th State Senate district, representing the towns of Andover, Bolton, Glastonbury, and Manchester. He was elected in November 2022 and is currently serving his first term, which ends in 2027. He holds the position of Deputy President Pro Tempore in the Connecticut State Senate and serves as Chair of the Planning and Development Committee.

Rahman is a member of the Democratic Party and was endorsed by the Working Families Party during his 2022 campaign.

Legislative Focus and Achievements
As Chair of the Planning and Development Committee, Rahman plays a pivotal role in promoting housing development across the state. Throughout his first term, he has advocated for policies to empower municipalities, leading a task force in 2023 that explored strategies for eliminating Connecticut's motor vehicle property tax while maintaining fiscal stability for towns and cities. He received an "Honor Roll" grade from the Connecticut Education Association based on his voting record supporting Connecticut students and teachers.
