Lynda Schlegel Culver is a Republican state senator representing Pennsylvania's 27th District, which includes Columbia, Luzerne , Montour, Northumberland, and Snyder Counties. Elected in a special election in January 2023 and reelected to a full term in November 2024, she previously served seven terms in the Pennsylvania House representing the 108th District. A lifelong resident of Northumberland County in Rockefeller Township, she graduated from Shikellamy High School, earned a degree in political science from Bloomsburg University, and worked over 20 years as staff leader for former state Rep. Merle Phillips. She chairs the Senate Education Committee, vice-chairs Health and Human Services, and serves on Appropriations, Aging & Youth, Consumer Protection & Professional Licensure, Intergovernmental Operations, and Local Government committees. Notable achievements include the Guardian of Small Business award from NFIB, 2021 Advocate for Excellence from ABA in PA, 2024 YMCA Legislative Champion, 2023 Pennsylvania Library Association Elected Official Award, and others recognizing her work in education, small business, and community service. She serves on boards including Central Susquehanna Opportunities , Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency , and various community organizations like the Greater Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce and United Way of Pennsylvania. She lives with her husband Tom, dog Rooney, and has an adult son Joshua; the family is active in their church.
