Biography

Lyle Larson

Lyle Thomas Larson was born on March 25, 1959, in San Antonio, Texas. He is a Republican politician who served in the Texas House of Representatives representing District 122 in the San Antonio area. Larson was first elected to the legislature in 2010 and chose not to seek reelection in 2022, citing his own legislative principle of imposing a 12-year term limit on state elected officials.

Education

Larson is an alumnus of the University of Texas at Austin.

Political Experience

Larson held several public offices before entering the state legislature:

  • Served on the San Antonio City Council
  • Served as a Bexar County Commissioner
  • Elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 2010, representing House District 122

As a state representative, Larson became known for occasionally breaking from Republican Party orthodoxy. He was the only Republican to oppose the GOP's priority elections bill and consistently supported legislation to expand Medicaid, a position that stood mostly alone within the House GOP. His willingness to buck his party on major issues made him a distinctive voice during his tenure in the legislature.
