Luke A. Meerman is a Republican member of the Michigan House of Representatives representing District 89, which includes townships of Allendale, Blendon, Chester, Polkton, Tallmadge, Wright, and the City of Coopersville in Ottawa County; townships of Casnovia, Egelston, Fruitport, Moorland, Ravenna, and Sullivan in Muskegon County; and part of Tyrone Township in Kent County. A lifelong resident of the district and fifth-generation dairy farmer from Coopersville, he was first elected in November 2018 and has served multiple terms, with his most recent election on November 8, 2022. Meerman is a small business owner, married to Victoria, with five children; the family has fostered 15 children and hosted six international students. Notable achievements include chairing the bipartisan School Safety Task Force during his second term and co-chairing the Legislature’s Working Group on National Security since 2023, focused on threats from adversarial foreign nations. He co-sponsored House Bill 5444, the "fetal heartbeat protection act," in 2021.
