Biography
Luis "Junior" Pérez Ortiz Jr., born on September 5, 1955, in Bayamón, Puerto Rico, is a politician affiliated with the Partido Nuevo Progresista *. He serves as Representative for *District 7 in the Puerto Rico House of Representatives, a position he has held since 1998 and continues in the 2025-2028 term. Raised with four siblings in Bayamón, he married in 1978 and has three children. Before entering politics, he worked over 12 years in private companies including Belh Lindsey, Almacenes Gonzalo Rivera e hijos, and Holsum Bakers de Puerto Rico. Notable achievements include his long tenure with multiple reelections and prior municipal roles in Bayamón's administration.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Attended primary school at Escuela Elemental de las Parcelas Van Scoy, intermediate at Escuela María Vázquez de Umpierre, and superior studies at Escuela Dr. Agustín Stahl in Bayamón's center. Took short courses in Commercial Administration while working.
- Political Experience: Began in Bayamón's municipal administration in 1985 as Officer of Plans for Civil Defense, later promoted to Director of the Tomás Kuilan Public Transportation Terminal and then Municipal Civil Defense Director in 1987. In 1997, appointed Director of the Department of Public Safety by former mayor Ramón Luis Rivera. Elected to the House in 1998 for District 7 and reelected several times since.
