Biography
Luanne M. Peterpaul

Luanne M. Peterpaul is a practicing attorney and managing partner of Peterpaul Law in Asbury Park, specializing in labor and employment law, general litigation, and training and education. Born in Newark, she has been a longtime Monmouth County resident.
Peterpaul made state history as the first openly LGBTQ+ woman elected to the New Jersey Legislature. She was elected to the General Assembly in November 2023 and sworn in on January 9, 2024.
As a civil rights advocate, Peterpaul has dedicated her career to championing marginalized communities and equality. She served as Chair of the Garden State Equality Action Fund, where she played a critical role in creating and promoting bipartisan anti-bullying legislation and was instrumental in securing marriage equality in New Jersey. She also defended New Jersey's ban on conversion therapy.
Peterpaul currently serves on the Assembly's Aging & Human Services Committee and the Financial Institutions and Insurance, Commerce, Economic Development, and Agriculture Committees. She is an active member of the American Bar Association, the New Jersey State Bar Association, and the Monmouth County Bar Association, and serves on the Board of Trustees of Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center at Monmouth Medical Center Children and the Board of the Thomas Peterpaul Foundation.
Education and Professional Experience
Peterpaul holds degrees from Duquesne University and Seton Hall Law School. She has lectured widely on employment and education law.
Her legal career includes service as an assistant Essex County prosecutor, where she successfully prosecuted cases ranging from theft to homicide. She was appointed as a Municipal Judge for the Cities of Long Branch and Asbury Park from 2018 to 2022.
Peterpaul has received numerous accolades for her legal work, including recognition as a top-rated attorney by Martindale-Hubbell, selection as a New Jersey Super Lawyer, and being named to the New Jersey Law Journal List as one of the Diverse Attorneys of the Year in 2015. She has also served as a legal analyst on various news outlets.
