Biography
Representative Lourdes Ramos
María de Lourdes Ramos Rivera, known as Lourdes Ramos, is a Puerto Rican politician affiliated with the Partido Nuevo Progresista *. She represents Puerto Rico *at-large in the House of Representatives.
Born on August 6, 1960, in Juncos, Puerto Rico, Lourdes Ramos has served as a representative by accumulation since 2005, following prior terms from 1996 to 2001. She was sworn in on March 26, 1996, becoming the first woman from Juncos to hold the position, and won the most votes among the 11 elected candidates in the 1996 general election. Ramos has been reelected in 2012, 2016, and 2020. Notable achievements include receiving the Jesús T. Piñero Award in 1997 from the Action Committee of Carolina and her early appointment in 1993 to the Commission on Women's Affairs by Governor Pedro Rosselló.
Education and Political Experience
Ramos holds a *Bachelor of Business Administration * from the University of Puerto Rico. Her career began as Secretary of the Juncos Municipal Legislature. In 1995, she successfully ran to fill a vacant House seat after Representative Jorge L. Navarro Alicea's resignation. She has additional ties to the Republican Party and continues as an at-large representative.
