Biography

Lori Michelle Chavez-DeRemer is a Republican politician and businesswoman. She represented Oregon's 5th Congressional District in the U.S. House from 2023 to 2025, becoming the first Republican woman elected to Congress from Oregon. She served as the U.S. Secretary of Labor from March 2025 until her resignation in 2026. Previously, she was mayor of Happy Valley, Oregon , the first woman and Latina in that role, during which the city became Oregon's fastest-growing community. A small business owner, she co-founded Anesthesia Associates Northwest with her husband, an anesthesiologist; notable achievements include co-sponsoring the PRO Act as one of few Republicans and advocating for apprenticeships and workforce training.
