Biography
Senator Lonnie Paxton

Senator Lonnie Paxton is a fifth-generation Oklahoman born in Chickasha and raised on his family's farm in Tuttle. He has deep roots in his district and has dedicated his life to faith, family, and community service.
Paxton is a businessman, entrepreneur, volunteer firefighter, farmer, and rancher. He has operated an insurance agency in downtown Tuttle for over 24 years and owns and operates a real estate company that has renovated several historically significant buildings in the community. He also farms and raises cattle on land that has been in his family since before Oklahoma statehood.
Before his Senate service, Paxton served as a Tuttle city councilman and mayor, where he oversaw major projects and helped revitalize the community. He has also served on the Grady County Memorial Hospital board of directors and was a former president of the Tuttle Chamber of Commerce.
Paxton is married to Misti, with whom he has been together for over 30 years. They have four grown children. His wife taught in the Tuttle Public School district for almost three decades before retiring. The couple are members of Tuttle United Methodist Church.
Education
Paxton is a graduate of Tuttle High School and earned a degree in Law Enforcement Administration from the University of Oklahoma .
Political Experience
Paxton was first elected to the Oklahoma State Senate in 2016 representing District 23. His legislative focus has centered on economic diversification, job creation, public education support, government transparency, and eliminating waste.
He currently serves as Assistant Majority Floor Leader and chairs the Energy and Telecommunications Committee and the Select Committee on Redistricting. He also serves on the Agriculture and Rural Development, Business and Commerce and Tourism, Education, and Rules committees, among others.
In 2025, Paxton was nominated by his peers to serve as President Pro Tempore of the Oklahoma Senate, replacing Greg Treat who was term-limited.
