Biography
Liz Murrill
Elizabeth Murrill was born in 1963 and is an eighth-generation Louisianan. Born in New Orleans and raised in Lafayette, she has been married for 30 years and raised four boys. In 2024, she made history as Louisiana's first female Attorney General, having been elected to the position in 2023.
Education
Murrill graduated from Lafayette High School and attended Louisiana State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Journalism in 1985. She then attended LSU's Paul M. Hebert School of Law, graduating in 1991, where she served as Editor-in-Chief of the Louisiana Law Review during her senior year. She also obtained a Master of Laws degree from Pepperdine University Law School in 2010 and served as a United States Supreme Court Fellow in 2007-2008.

Notable Achievements:
- Argued five cases before the U.S. Supreme Court
- Served as lead counsel in over 35 cases challenging federal overreach, addressing issues ranging from open border policies and religious liberty attacks to COVID-19 mandates
- Assisted District Attorneys across Louisiana in over 200 criminal appeals
- Led multi-state efforts defending state sovereignty on energy, environmental regulation, and firearm rights
- Defended Louisiana's admitting privileges law, contributing to the reversal of Roe v. Wade
- Advocated for laws protecting the unborn, including restrictions on dismemberment abortions and protections for babies with disabilities
- Spearheaded efforts against Biden Administration policies on oil and gas leasing on federal lands and waters
Murrill has taught appellate advocacy and legal writing at the Louisiana State University Law Center for more than ten years and is a member of the Federalist Society.
