Representative Lisie Burgos Muñiz
Lisie Janet Burgos Muñiz was born on June 17 in Yauco, Puerto Rico. She is an attorney and politician representing the Proyecto Dignidad party in Puerto Rico's House of Representatives as an At-Large representative since 2021.
Education
Burgos Muñiz completed her undergraduate studies at Universidad Interamericana de Puerto Rico, earning a bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management cum laude. She continued her legal education at the same institution, obtaining both a Juris Doctor and a Master's degree in Law.
Political Experience and Career
Burgos Muñiz was nominated by Proyecto Dignidad as a candidate for at-large representative in the 2020 Puerto Rico general elections. She was elected and took office on January 2, 2021. She was appointed as president of the Commission on Social Welfare, Persons with Disabilities, and Senior Citizens.
In her private legal practice, her areas of concentration include family law, personal injury law, administrative law, and notarial services.
Notable Actions
In 2024, Burgos Muñiz filed a lawsuit against House Speaker Rafael "Tatito" Hernández after he ordered her removal from the chamber for refusing to wear a mask. The court ruled in her favor and ordered the House of Representatives to allow her to enter without a mask.
She has also been active in legislative initiatives, including introducing bills related to healthcare policy for minors and presenting proposals to expand political party representation in electoral procedures.
