Biography

Senator Lisa Wellman

Lisa Wellman is a Democratic member of the Washington State Senate, representing the 41st Legislative District, which includes Mercer Island, Bellevue, Newcastle, and parts of Issaquah, Sammamish, and Renton. She was elected to the Senate in 2016.

Before entering politics, Wellman had a 25-year career in technology and marketing, holding executive-level positions at Fortune 100 companies. She began her professional life as a public school teacher in the 1980s before transitioning into work as a systems analyst and programmer.

Wellman resides on Mercer Island with her family, which includes two daughters and a grandson. In her leisure time, she enjoys photography, travel, reading, and bridge.

Education

Wellman earned a B.A., Summa Cum Laude, from Barat College of DePaul University.

Political Experience

In the Washington State Senate, Wellman serves as chair of the Early Learning & K-12 Education Committee. She is also a member of the Energy, Environment & Technology Committee and the Ways and Means Committee. Additionally, she serves on the Educational Opportunity Gap Oversight and Accountability Committee, the Mastery Based Learning Workgroup, and the Work Integrated Learning Advisory Committee.

Beyond her legislative duties, Wellman mentors MBA candidates at the Foster Business School at the University of Washington.
