Lisa Swain

Lisa Swain was born in April 1958 and is a resident of Fair Lawn, New Jersey. She has represented the 38th Legislative District in the New Jersey General Assembly since May 2018, when she was appointed to succeed Senator Joseph Lagana.

Prior to her election to the state legislature, Swain served on the Fair Lawn Borough Council for 11 years, from 2008 to 2018. She was elected Mayor of Fair Lawn for two terms, serving in that role in both 2011 and 2018.

Swain is an accomplished triathlete and member of Team USA's World Championship Triathlon Team. She also serves as Vice President of the North Jersey Masters Track & Field Club. She has been actively involved in her community through work with the Fair Lawn Economic Development Corporation, the Arts Council, the Green Team, and efforts to build an inclusionary playground.

Education

Swain holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Rochester and a Master of Arts degree from New York University.

Political Experience

In the New Jersey General Assembly, Swain serves as Chair of the Assembly Appropriations Committee and Vice Chair of the Assembly State and Local Government Committee. She is also a member of the Assembly Education Committee and the Joint Budget Oversight Committee .

In the November 2018 special election to complete unexpired Assembly terms, Swain and running mate Chris Tully defeated Republican candidates Gail Horton and Jayme Ouellete. She continues to represent the 38th District, which includes Bergen County municipalities such as Paramus, Fair Lawn, Bergenfield, Glen Rock, and others.

Swain resides in Fair Lawn with her husband, Ron, and has two adult daughters.
