Biography
Lisa Renee Marten Moonier is a Democratic member of the Hawaii House of Representatives, representing District 51 since 2020. A local resident and mother of two sons, she returned to Hawaii to raise her family and has been actively involved in community issues, including serving on the Kailua Neighborhood Board and Lanikai Association. She founded and serves as Executive Director of the nonprofit Healthy Climate Communities, which educates youth on climate change, environmental issues, and native reforestation. Notable achievements include chairing efforts on bills addressing the high cost of living , supporting Department of Hawaiian Home Lands beneficiaries with $600 million for housing, environmental protections , and reproductive rights and gun safety measures. She currently serves as Chair of the Human Services Committee and the Keiki Caucus, and is a member of the Health, Education, Higher Education and Technology committees, plus the Hawaiian, Women's, Kupuna , and Environmental Caucuses; she is also State Lead for the National Caucus of Environmental Legislators.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduate of Kailua Intermediate School, Kalaheo High School, and Pitzer College.
- Early Career: Worked part-time at the John A. Burns School of Medicine at UH Mānoa in the Center on HIV while raising her children; involved in community environmental advocacy, including promoting 100% renewable energy with Blue Planet Foundation and organizing Arbor Day events.
- Political Experience: Elected to Hawaii House in 2020; prior community roles focused on curbing commercial activities in parks, vacation rentals, parking management, and invasive species control.
