Biography
Elizabeth "Lisa" Hernandez is a Democratic member of the Illinois House of Representatives serving the 2nd District, which includes the southwest suburban communities of Cicero, Berwyn, Brookfield, Lyons, McCook, Riverside, and Stickney. Born July 14, 1961, in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, Hernandez has built a career rooted in community service and labor advocacy. She began her professional journey as a grocery clerk and member of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union before transitioning to public service. Hernandez lives in Cicero with her husband Charles and their three children. As the highest-ranking Latino member of the Illinois House of Representatives, she currently serves as Deputy Majority Leader and chairs the Redistricting Committee. She is also Chair of the Democratic Party of Illinois.

- Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts from Morton College
- Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration from Northeastern University
Political and Professional Experience:
- Worked in the Cicero Public School System for 17 years as an administrator
- Served as Senior Policy Advisor to Lieutenant Governor Patrick Quinn
- Elected to the Illinois House of Representatives in January 2007
- Member of multiple House committees including Appropriations , Consumer Protection, Immigration & Human Rights, Labor & Commerce, Revenue & Finance, and Rules
- Founded the Cicero Youth Commission
- Current member of the Children's Center of Cicero and Berwyn and Cicero Youth Services
Hernandez has championed workers' rights, fair wages, improved working conditions, and equitable education access throughout her tenure in the State House.
