Biography
Lisa Hango is a Republican member of the Vermont House of Representatives, representing the Franklin-5 district since her appointment by Governor Phil Scott on February 14, 2019. Born and raised in Catskill, New York, she graduated as valedictorian of Catskill High School in 1980. She earned a BA in Economics from the University of Vermont in 1984. After working in computer manufacturing, retail, and human resources in the Boston area, she moved to West Virginia with her husband John in 1988, becoming a stay-at-home parent to their four children. In 1990, the family returned to Vermont, settling on the Hango family beef farm in Berkshire, Franklin County. Hango has extensive community service, including 20 years as a substitute teacher in local schools, assistant varsity track coach, directing a Catholic preschool program, leading Girl Scouts, and volunteering at the Enosburg Food Shelf. She currently serves on the Northern Mountain Valley Unified Union School District Board, AgeWell Advisory Council, and Northwestern Medical Center Board of Incorporators. Notable achievements include co-chairing the VT National Guard & Veterans Affairs Caucus and VT Rural Caucus, membership in the NCSL Military & Veterans Affairs Task Force and CSG Military Affairs Task Force, and receiving Legislator of the Year from the Vermont League of Cities and Towns in 2023 for rural community work. She serves as Vice Chair of the House Committee on Government Operations and Military Affairs Canvassing Committee.
