Biography
Lisa A. Dunkley is a Democratic member of the Florida House of Representatives, representing District 97 since November 8, 2022, succeeding Dan Daley. Born in Kingston, Jamaica, she immigrated to the United States as a young adult with her daughter and siblings, moving to Florida in 1995 and residing in Sunrise for over 25 years. A retired United States Army veteran who served her final tour in Iraq under Operation Enduring Freedom, she is a Christian, entrepreneur, mother, and current consultant with prior experience at the Florida Department of Transportation and in the non-profit sector, including as a youth director and Middle School PTA president.
Notable achievements include winning the 2022 election with 62% in a three-way Democratic primary and subsequent reelection, with terms through 2030. She advocates for housing, education, veterans, and business, serving on committees such as Health & Human Services, Choice & Innovation Subcommittee, and others focused on education, workforce, and water quality. Key legislative sponsorships: HB553 for career-themed courses in middle schools; "Purple Star Campuses" for military family priorities in university registration; and support for HB627 expanding affordable housing and the Hometown Heroes program for veterans, police, teachers, and others.
