Biography
Lindsey Marie Williams is a Democratic member of the Pennsylvania State Senate, representing the 38th Senatorial District in Allegheny County, which includes the 10th, 11th, and 12th Wards of Pittsburgh, North Hills suburbs, and communities along the Allegheny River Valley. Elected in 2018 and reelected in 2022 with 55.8% of the vote, she serves as Minority Chair of the Senate Education Committee and Treasurer of Pittsburgh Regional Transit. Her career focuses on advocating for working families, union jobs, fully funded education, affordable healthcare, clean energy, and environmental protection, including opposition to water privatization.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduated from Dickinson College and Duquesne University School of Law.
- Early Career: Director of Advocacy at the National Whistleblowers Center, promoting bipartisan whistleblower protection legislation; illegally terminated after union organizing efforts, successfully litigated via the National Labor Relations Board.
- Subsequent Roles: Worked with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters on strikes and organizing, and with the Pittsburgh Federation of Teachers for quality education.
- Community Involvement: Active in One Pennsylvania, Fight Back Pittsburgh, Young Democrats of Allegheny County, and Pennsylvania Democratic State Committee; named 2016 Allegheny County Young Democrat of the Year and part of Incline’s 2017 Who’s Next: Politics class; inaugural Emerge Pennsylvania graduate.
