Biography
Lindsey Port is a Democratic-Farmer-Labor ** member of the Minnesota Senate representing **District 55, which encompasses the communities of Burnsville and Savage in Dakota and Scott counties. She has served in the Minnesota Senate since 2021 and is currently in her second term, having been re-elected in 2022.
Port is a longtime resident of Burnsville, where she lives with her husband, two daughters, and two dogs.
Education
Lindsey Port attended the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities.
Political Experience
Port moved to Minnesota in 2001. She was an unsuccessful candidate for the Minnesota House of Representatives District 56B in 2016 before her election to the state Senate.
In the Senate, Port holds several significant leadership and committee positions. She serves as chair of the Housing and Homelessness Prevention Committee and championed a historic $1 billion investment in safe, affordable housing for all Minnesotans in 2023. She is the Senate Chair of the Reproductive Freedom Caucus, which leads legislative efforts to secure bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom.
As chief author of the 2023 adult-use cannabis legalization bill, Port had the opportunity to legislate a new government agency, regulate a formerly prohibited industry, and prioritize social equity within Minnesota's cannabis industry.
Port also serves on the Elections Committee and the Energy, Utilities, Environment, and Climate Committee.
