Biography
Lindsey Dougherty
Lindsey Dougherty is a Democratic member of the Virginia House of Delegates representing the 75th District, which includes parts of Chesterfield County, parts of Prince George County, and the City of Hopewell. She was sworn in on January 14, 2026.
Originally from Knoxville, Tennessee, Dougherty earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Tennessee. She and her husband Brent, a Navy veteran, moved to the Raleigh area in North Carolina to complete their graduate studies before relocating to Virginia nearly a decade ago to pursue job opportunities. She resides in the district with her two children, Grayson and Brianna , both of whom attend public schools in the 75th District.
Dougherty's personal experiences with navigating complex healthcare systems, managing significant medical costs for her two children with complicated autoimmune disorders, and balancing multiple responsibilities including full-time education have shaped her commitment to serving her community. She has been an active volunteer with organizations advocating for expanded healthcare access for children across Virginia and supporting single mothers pursuing financial independence.
Education
Dougherty holds a Master's in Public Administration from North Carolina State University and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Tennessee.
Political Experience
Before her election to the House of Delegates, Dougherty worked in the Budget and Management Department for Chesterfield County government, where she managed the fiscal administration of multi-million dollar departmental budgets while ensuring funds reflected community needs.
She previously ran for the Virginia House of Delegates in the 62nd District in 2019, receiving approximately 45% of the vote against incumbent Republican Carrie Coyner before redistricting created the current 75th District. In her 2026 campaign for the 75th District, she emerged as the Democratic nominee.
Beyond her governmental work, Dougherty has been a dedicated advocate for underserved youth in the juvenile justice system, helping to provide job skills and resources to support their futures.
