Biography
Lindsay Vaughn
Lindsay Vaughn is a Democratic state representative serving Kansas House District 22, which encompasses Overland Park. She was born and raised in Overland Park and has been serving in the Kansas Legislature since January 11, 2021.
Vaughn is a nonprofit professional and community organizer dedicated to environmental protection, education, equality, and economic opportunity. She serves on the board of Heartland Conservation Alliance, a land trust dedicated to stewarding the Blue River watershed. She is known for her work advocating for young women's issues and environmental policy reform.
Education
Vaughn graduated from Blue Valley Northwest High School and earned a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Cultural Anthropology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she graduated with Distinction.
Political Experience
Early Career: Before entering elected office, Vaughn worked in the nonprofit sector and human resources. She served as a volunteer coordinator and later as Volunteer Program Manager for Literacy KC. She also worked with the Girl Scouts of Northeast Kansas and Northwest Missouri in a human resources capacity.
Campaign Work: In 2018, Vaughn worked as a field organizer for Rep. Sharice Davids' first congressional campaign. She previously worked on the campaigns of state representatives Brett Parker and Brandon Woodard, and served as chair of the Johnson County Young Democrats.
Legislative Service: Vaughn won election to the Kansas House in November 2020 and was re-elected in November 2022. She currently serves as Ranking Member of the House Water Committee and holds membership on the Transportation, Judiciary, Health and Human Services, and Special Claims Against the State committees. She is also Governor Kelly's appointment to the Build Kansas Advisory Committee.
Notable Legislative Achievements: Vaughn has led efforts to protect groundwater in Kansas by endorsing legislation to curtail pumping in the state. She has sponsored legislation to abolish capital punishment in Kansas and has introduced bills to increase access to contraceptives and reform state water policy.
