Biography
Linda L. Ujifusa is a Democratic state senator representing District 11 in the Rhode Island Senate. Elected in November 2022, she assumed office on January 3, 2023, and serves on the Senate Committee on Health & Human Services and the Senate Committee on Special Legislation & Veterans' Affairs.
An attorney by profession, Ujifusa previously worked at Mintz Levin, the United States Environmental Protection Agency, and taught legal writing at the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. She entered politics during the Bernie Sanders 2016 presidential campaign and served on the Portsmouth Town Council from 2018 to 2022.
Notable achievements include sponsoring the Rhode Island Climate Superfund Act to hold polluters accountable for climate damages, legislation for healthcare access by reducing prior authorizations and insurance denials, bills on wildfire prevention, tax credits for caregivers, and affordable housing assistance. She led the Statewide Student Transportation Study Commission to save taxpayer dollars, passed a bill limiting "junk fees," and was honored in 2025 by the Housing Network of Rhode Island for the Ade Bethune House project creating 54 units of senior housing.
