Biography

Linda M. López is a Democratic member of the New Mexico Senate representing District 11 in Bernalillo County, covering the southwest portion of Albuquerque. Born on March 13, 1964, in Albuquerque, she is a native New Mexican, businesswoman, and consultant who owns a small business specializing in organizational development. She has served continuously since her first election in 1996 and is currently in her seventh term. Notable achievements include chairing the Senate Rules Committee for 19 years, serving as Democratic Senate Caucus Chair and Senate Majority Whip, and leading interim committees such as the Welfare Reform Oversight Committee and the Election Reform Task Force. She chaired the Bernalillo County Democratic Party from 2002 to 2005 and has been recognized in the International Who’s Who of Entrepreneurs and The Almanac of Latino Politics . Key positions include support for renewable energy mandates, medical and recreational marijuana, abortion rights, body-worn cameras for law enforcement, early childhood education funding, and COVID-19 emergency measures.
