Biography
Liish Kozlowski is a member of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party representing District 8B in northeastern Minnesota, including the city of Duluth and parts of St. Louis County. Elected in November 2022 after defeating Arik Forsman in the DFL primary, Kozlowski has served since 2023 and is currently in their second term. They are the first nonbinary member of the Minnesota Legislature, the second two-spirit member , and the first Mexican and first Ojibwe person to represent Duluth. As a pro-choice advocate, Kozlowski supports expanded abortion access, gender-affirming care as part of a "trans refuge state," inclusive schools, housing for disadvantaged communities, and increased funding for the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives Office. Notable achievements include authoring a 2023 law for gender-neutral bathrooms in schools and sponsoring a bill banning nonessential cosmetic procedures on intersex children under 12.
