Biography
Assemblymember Laurie Davies
Laurie Ann Davies was born on February 27, 1962, in Wisconsin. She is a Republican serving in the California State Assembly representing District 74, which encompasses southern Orange County communities including Laguna Niguel, Dana Point, San Juan Capistrano, and San Clemente, as well as northern San Diego County areas such as Oceanside, Vista, and Camp Pendleton.
After graduating high school in Wisconsin, Davies moved to California in 1981 to pursue the California Dream. She worked her way through school and later established deep roots in Orange County, initially working in the restaurant and hospitality sector before launching a successful wedding and events planning business two decades ago, which she continues to operate today.
Davies is married to Neil and lives in Laguna Niguel.
Education
Davies earned a bachelor's degree from California State University, Long Beach.
Political Experience
Local Government:
Davies was first elected to the Laguna Niguel City Council in 2012 and served until 2020. She was appointed Mayor in 2015 and re-elected in 2016. During her tenure on the council, she served as a board member on the Transportation Corridor Agency, chaired the League of Cities Committee on Transportation, Communication and Public Works, and was elected to the Orange County Transportation Authority. She also served as President of the Association of California Cities Orange County.
State Assembly:
Davies was elected to the California State Assembly in 2020, defeating incumbent Republican Bill Brough in the primary. She was re-elected in 2022 and 2024. She serves as Vice Chair of the Assembly Committees on Transportation and Governmental Organization, and sits on committees for Utilities and Energy, Military and Veterans Affairs, and the Legislative Ethics Committee. She is a member of the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus.
Legislative Achievements:
Davies has authored legislation addressing trade school pathways for high school students, coastal erosion prevention, protective orders for domestic violence survivors, human trafficking awareness requirements, fentanyl dealer penalties, and swim lesson vouchers for underserved children to prevent childhood drowning. She also authored legislation removing fentanyl testing equipment from drug paraphernalia lists and requiring sex trafficking warning notices in barbershops and cosmetology establishments.
