Biography

Lauren H. Carson is a Democratic member of the Rhode Island House of Representatives, representing District 75 since 2015. She serves as Deputy Majority Leader and holds leadership roles including second vice chair of the House Environment and Natural Resources Committee and the House Innovation and Technology Committee.

Born February 26, 1954, Lauren H. Carson is a lifelong advocate for environmental issues, small business, tourism, and government transparency. A mother of one son, Andrew, she has lived in Newport, Rhode Island, for over 20 years. She works as a community organizer and environmental policy analyst for Rhode Island Clean Water Action. Previously, she owned CompuClaim and the Mount Vernon Inn, and served in civic roles such as president of the Norman Bird Sanctuary Board and founding director of the New Jersey Environmental Federation.

Notable achievements include leading a commission on sea level rise impacts, sponsoring laws for flooding education for planners and unified solar permitting, cosponsoring cesspool phase-outs and Social Security tax elimination, establishing the Rhode Island Aging and Disability Resource Center, and launching the Aquidneck Island Climate Caucus in 2020.
