Biography
Latyna M. Humphrey is a Democratic member of the Ohio House of Representatives, representing District 2 . A Columbus native and single mother, she is a two-time published author, nationally recognized speaker, and advocate for criminal justice reform, workforce development, housing access, and child care affordability. Notable achievements include passing seven bills into law in the 135th General Assembly—more than any other Ohio House Democratic Caucus member—including House Bill 50, Ohio’s first law eliminating collateral housing barriers for those with prior justice involvement; she received the Myrl H. Shoemaker Legislator of the Year Award and the Next Up Columbus Award.
Born and raised on Columbus's near east side, Representative Humphrey graduated from Columbus East High School. She worked her way through college as a single mother, dedicating her career to equity, uplifting marginalized communities, and public service. Prior roles include bailiff in the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas for Judge Carl A. Aveni, Community Outreach Coordinator for Franklin County Auditor Michael Stinziano, and positions at Huntington National Bank and PNC Bank. She volunteered during the Flint Water Crisis with the American Red Cross and local food kitchens, and served as the first female president and CEO of Central Ohio Young Black Democrats , secretary of the Franklin County Democratic Party Central Committee, and vice chair of the NAACP Political Action Committee. Appointed to the Ohio House in October 2021 to succeed Erica Crawley , she now serves District 2, organizing resource fairs, policy forums, and community events.
