Biography
Lashrecse D. Aird is a Democrat representing District 13 in the Virginia State Senate, which includes all of Charles City County, Prince George County, Surry County, Sussex County, Hopewell City, and Petersburg City, as well as parts of Dinwiddie County and Henrico County. Born on June 22, 1986, in Buffalo, New York, she resides in Petersburg with her husband, Blaine J.P. Aird, and their two young sons, Blaine and Blake. A mother of school-age boys and a champion for working families, she grew up experiencing income inequality as the daughter of young working-class parents, driving her advocacy for social, racial, economic, and environmental justice.
Notable achievements include serving as the youngest woman ever elected to the Virginia House of Delegates, where she held three terms from 2016 to 2022; sponsoring Breonna’s Law to prohibit no-knock search warrants; leading Virginia to become the first southern state to declare racism a public health crisis and access to water a human right; advancing legislation to combat maternal and infant mortality; earning Legislator of the Year from the Virginia Education Association; repeated recognition from the Virginia Chamber of Commerce for job creation in distressed communities; and Woman of the Year by USA Today. She serves on boards including Chippenham Johnston-Willis Hospital, Sorensen Political Leadership Institute, Sports Backers, and Virginia League of Planned Parenthood, and was immediate past chair of the Democratic Party of Virginia's Fourth Congressional District Committee.
