Biography
Dr. LaShae Sharp-Collins is a Democrat representing California's 79th Assembly District, which includes parts of southeastern San Diego, El Cajon, La Mesa, Lemon Grove, and unincorporated communities like Bonita, La Presa, and Spring Valley. Born and raised in the district to union-member parents, she is an educator, adjunct professor at San Diego State University, and mother of two living in San Diego. Elected in November 2024, she serves on committees including Aging and Long-Term Care, Budget, Health, Higher Education, Public Safety, and select committees on the 2028 Olympics, higher education master plan, and child care costs. Notable achievements include initiating 23 bills in her first session , prior work passing legislation to reduce violence in communities of color, and holding school districts accountable.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Professor at San Diego State University; worked as Community Engagement Specialist for the San Diego County Office of Education, supporting 500,000 students across 42 districts by strengthening curriculums, partnerships, health screenings, and career training.
- Political Experience: District Director for former Assemblymember Dr. Shirley N. Weber , managing staff, developing policy, and addressing district issues; elected to the Assembly in 2024 with endorsements from the California Democratic Party, Toni Atkins, and Weber, defeating La Mesa City Councilman Colin Parent.
