Biography
Larry Walker III is a Republican state senator representing Georgia's 20th District, which includes Bleckley, Dodge, Dooly, Houston , Laurens, Pulaski, Treutlen, and Wilcox counties. Born on June 17, 1965, in Perry, Georgia, he was elected to the Georgia State Senate in 2015 and sworn in on December 18, 2015. An insurance agent by occupation, he owns Walker Insurance Agency in Perry and previously worked as a staff accountant for The Coca-Cola Company. Married to his high school sweetheart Adrienne for over 35 years, they have three sons—Ben, Cody, and Wade—and reside in Kathleen, where they are active members of Perry United Methodist Church. In June 2025, he was named the Republican nominee for President Pro Tempore of the Georgia State Senate ahead of the 2026 session.
Walker has championed economic growth through tax cuts, regulatory reductions, education funding, rural investment incentives, and water rights protection. He has also focused on improving rural healthcare access, including mental and behavioral health. Notable achievements include eliminating the corporate net worth tax on small businesses, creating tax credits for rural job investments, streamlining insurance notice requirements, enhancing digital entertainment incentives, strengthening agricultural water metering, and establishing military economic opportunity zones.
He holds leadership roles such as Majority Caucus Secretary, Chairman of the Insurance & Labor Committee, Secretary of the Agriculture & Consumer Affairs Committee, and Chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Agriculture Education, and Department of Natural Resources. Walker serves on various boards and committees, including the Agricultural Exposition Authority Overview Committee, Georgia World Congress Center Authority Overview Committee, and One Georgia Authority. A Paul Harris Fellow and past Perry Rotarian of the Year , he has held positions like past Chairman of the Perry Downtown Development Authority and Vice-Chairman of the Houston County Development Authority.
Education and Political Experience
Walker graduated from the University of Georgia’s Terry College .
His political experience began with his 2015 election to the Georgia Senate, where he has served continuously. He previously held non-elected roles on boards such as the Methodist Home, Museum of Aviation, Morris Bank, Middle Georgia Technical College, and Houston County Development Authority. Committee assignments include Agriculture and Consumer Affairs, Appropriations, Health and Human Services, Insurance and Labor, and ex-officio on Veterans, Military, and Homeland Security.
