Larry Springer

Lawrence Stanley Springer was born on January 30, 1947, in Snoqualmie, Washington. A lifelong resident of East King County, Springer has built a career combining education, entrepreneurship, and public service. He began his professional life as an elementary school teacher before transitioning to business ownership. In 1985, he opened a retail wine store in Kirkland, which remains a family-run operation.

Springer's community involvement eventually led him into politics. He served on the Kirkland City Council for 11 years , including four years as Mayor of Kirkland . During his tenure in local government, he received the National Distinguished Leadership Award. As both a City Council member and Mayor, Springer focused on revitalizing the community and was instrumental in bringing a Performing Arts Center to Kirkland.

Political Experience

Springer is a Democratic member of the Washington House of Representatives, representing District 45 since 2005. His district encompasses approximately half of Kirkland and Redmond, half of Sammamish, a portion of Woodinville, and all of Duvall.

Currently, Springer serves as Deputy Majority Leader in the House. His legislative priorities include education, economic development, the arts, and community building. He leverages his background as a small business owner to foster dialogue between the business community and the legislature.

Springer serves on several House committees, including Appropriations, Finance, Agriculture & Natural Resources, and Rules. He also holds memberships on joint committees focused on public policy and public records exemptions.

Education

Springer holds a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Western Washington University and a Master of Science in Family Counseling from the University of Oregon.
