Biography
Representative Larry Satcowitz
Larry Satcowitz is a Vermont educator and politician representing the Orange-Washington-Addison district in the Vermont House of Representatives as a Democrat. Born in New York, he is from the town of Randolph, Vermont. Satcowitz first ran for the House in 2018 but lost to Independent Ben Jickling. After Jickling left the position, he was replaced by Independent Peter Reed. Satcowitz successfully defeated Reed in the 2020 election and has since been reelected, currently serving in his third term.
Beyond his legislative role, Satcowitz has served as a Select Board Member for the Town of Randolph since 2017.
Education
Satcowitz holds a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from the University of Pennsylvania, with a minor in philosophy. He also earned a Master of Science in Zoology from Colorado State University and attended the University of Vermont.
Political Experience
In the Vermont House of Representatives, Satcowitz holds the position of Ranking Member of the Vermont House Environment Committee and serves on the Vermont General Assembly's Joint Committee on Legislative Rules. His legislative priorities center on education, the economy, healthcare, climate change, and systemic racism. He has sponsored legislation including Vermont H.812, which reviewed and expanded laws surrounding invasive species management, allowing for more comprehensive management and protections for native species and habitats. Satcowitz received endorsements from Bernie Sanders in both the 2018 and 2020 elections.
