Biography
Lawrence K. "Larry" Grooms is a Republican state senator representing District 37 in South Carolina, which includes much of Berkeley County and parts of Charleston County. Born on March 20, 1964, in St. Stephen, South Carolina, he is a lifelong Lowcountry resident and small business owner. A consistent conservative leader, Grooms has served since 1997 and is known for practical solutions on transportation, education, and limited government. He chairs the Senate Transportation Committee, founded the South Carolina Legislative Prayer Caucus, and serves on the Education, Ethics, Finance, and Rules committees. Notable achievements include authoring the Education Scholarship Trust Fund Program, the Fetal Heartbeat and Protection from Abortion Act, and the REACH Act; leading Department of Transportation modernization; and advocating for illegal immigration enforcement and stronger ties with Israel. Awards include Legislator of the Year from the American Legion and Fraternal Order of Police, Boeing Leadership Award, and Business Champion from the SC Chamber of Commerce.
