Biography

Lane Jean

Samuel Lane Jean was born on November 10, 1958, and is a Republican member of the Arkansas House of Representatives representing District 99, which includes portions of Columbia, Lafayette, and Miller counties. He is currently serving his 8th term in the state legislature.

Jean previously served as Mayor of Magnolia from 1995 to 2010 and held the position of Columbia County Justice of the Peace. He has been a lifelong resident of Magnolia, Arkansas.

Education

Jean graduated from Magnolia High School and attended Abilene Christian University. He earned his bachelor's degree in history from Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia.

Political Experience

Jean first entered the Arkansas House of Representatives in 2013, representing District 2 before being elected to District 99 in November 2022. His current committee assignments include serving as House Chair for the Joint Budget Committee, as well as membership on the House Revenue and Taxation Committee, the House State Agencies and Governmental Affairs Committee, and the Joint Performance Review Committee.

Beyond the legislature, Jean has held several significant positions, including serving as an Arkansas Department of Economic Development Commissioner for three years and as a member of the Southern Arkansas University Board of Trustees.

His professional background includes work in timber, real estate, and cattle operations. Jean is affiliated with the Church of Christ and is not a military veteran.
