Biography
Lance Bell is a Republican state senator representing District 11 in the Alabama Senate, which covers parts of Shelby, St. Clair, and Talladega counties. A lifelong resident of St. Clair County, he assumed office on November 4, 2022, succeeding Jim McClendon. Notable achievements include his recognition by the FBI Director for contributions to a joint federal-state kidnapping case, serving as a defense attorney in former Alabama House Speaker Mike Hubbard's 2016 ethics trial, and sponsoring legislation such as the Alabama Teacher Paperwork Streamlining Act, measures on illegal immigration and human smuggling, and initiatives supporting law enforcement, education reform, and economic development. He currently chairs the 3rd Congressional District Alabama Republican Party Executive Committee and serves as municipal judge for Ashville, Riverside, Childersburg, Ragland, and Ohatchee, while also prosecuting for Pell City.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Faulkner University and a law degree from Birmingham School of Law.
- Early Career: Worked for the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department and as an investigator with the St. Clair County District Attorney’s Office while in school; became a partner in 2012 at the Pell City law firm Trussell, Funderburg, Rea, Bell & Furgerson, handling plaintiff, civil, and criminal defense matters statewide.
- Political Experience: Chairman of the St. Clair County Republican Party ; won the 2022 Republican primary for Senate District 11 with 73% of the vote and faced no major general election opponent; serves on committees including Judiciary, State Governmental Affairs, Healthcare, Children and Youth Health, Tourism, Veterans, Military Affairs, and Public Safety, Shelby County Legislation, and the Permanent Legislative Committee on Reapportionment; acted as a Donald Trump elector in the 2024 presidential election.
