Biography
La'Tasha D. Mayes is a Democratic member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, representing the 24th district in Allegheny County, which includes parts of Pittsburgh. Elected in 2022, she is the first woman to represent the 24th district and the first out lesbian to serve in the Pennsylvania General Assembly. Born in Philadelphia and raised in West Philadelphia, she moved to Pittsburgh in 1999. Mayes is a prominent activist focused on reproductive justice, Black maternal health, and marginalized communities. Notable achievements include founding and leading New Voices for Reproductive Justice , passing the CROWN Act out of the House in her first year, and co-founding and co-chairing the Pennsylvania Black Maternal Health Caucus. She previously ran unsuccessfully for Pittsburgh City Council in 2015 and served on the Governor’s Advisory Commission on African American Affairs and as inaugural Vice Chair of the Allegheny County Human Relations Commission.

- Education: B.S. in business administration, University of Pittsburgh ; M.S. in public policy and management, Heinz School of Carnegie Mellon University .
- Political Experience: Elected to the Pennsylvania House for the 2023 and 2025 terms; serves on committees including Appropriations, Environmental Resources and Energy, Health, and Judiciary. Prior roles include work in state and local government supporting minority, women, and disadvantaged business enterprises.
