Biography
Kyle Evans Gay is a Democratic politician and attorney serving as the 27th Lieutenant Governor of Delaware since January 2025. Previously, she represented the 5th District in the Delaware Senate from 2021 to 2025, becoming the first Democrat to hold the seat in over 40 years after defeating Republican incumbent Catherine Cloutier in 2020. Notable achievements include sponsoring legislation for automatic voter registration , free feminine hygiene products in schools , access to reproductive healthcare at universities , and eliminating the death penalty . As Lieutenant Governor, she chairs the Delaware Behavioral Health Consortium, Delaware Food is Medicine Committee, and Interagency Resource Management Committee, focusing on reproductive freedom, gun violence prevention, economic mobility, and support for working families and small businesses.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Raised in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania; graduated from Unionville High School; earned a bachelor’s degree in international relations and history from Brown University; received a law degree from Boston University School of Law .
- Professional Experience: Began as deputy attorney general in the Delaware Department of Justice; clerked in Delaware Superior Court; practiced in private business courts since 2014; pro bono work for children in foster care; past president of Junior League of Wilmington; founding member of Spur Impact Association; served on Delaware Public Integrity Commission and Delaware Bar Foundation board.
- Political Experience: Elected to Delaware Senate in 2020 on a platform for the Equal Rights Amendment; chaired Senate Elections & Government Affairs Committee, vice-chaired Senate Judiciary Committee, co-chaired Joint Legislative Oversight and Sunset Committee; elected Lieutenant Governor in 2024, defeating Ruth Briggs King.
