Biography
Kurt Fevella
Kurt Fevella is a Republican state senator from Hawaii representing District 20 on Oʻahu. Born on October 1, 1967, in ʻEwa Beach, Hawaii, he has been a lifelong resident of his community. Fevella is known for his active involvement in community service, including feeding the hungry, placing homeless individuals in shelters, and supporting kupuna and youth in sports.
Education
Fevella graduated from James Campbell High School in ʻEwa Beach, where he was raised.
Political Experience
Fevella has served in the Hawaii State Senate since 2018, initially representing District 19 before redistricting moved him to District 20 in 2022. His 2018 election was a historic upset victory, defeating state Representative Matt LoPresti by just 116 votes. This win made him the only state senator not affiliated with the Democratic Party at the time and the first Republican elected to the Hawaii State Senate since 2014.
Prior to his successful 2018 campaign, Fevella ran for the Hawaii House of Representatives in 2012, representing District 40, but was unsuccessful in that race.
In his legislative work, Fevella has prioritized transportation and education in his district, which encompasses ʻEwa Beach, Ocean Pointe, ʻEwa by Gentry, and Iroquois Point. He has also advocated for utilizing Hawaii's tourism industry to help diversify and expand the state's agriculture sector.
