Biography
Kristine Monic Reeves is a Democratic member of the Washington House of Representatives, representing the 30th Legislative District . She serves alongside Jamila Taylor and assumed office on January 9, 2023. A working mother of two school-aged children and wife to Camron, Reeves is the first African American woman elected to the Washington House in 18 years and the only legislator at the time with children under age 5. She grew up facing challenges including her mother's substance abuse, foster care, and homelessness, crediting public education for breaking the cycle of poverty. Reeves owns a small business focused on community and economic development, emphasizing cultural humility, DEIB approaches, and industrial/organizational psychology. She is pursuing a doctorate in industrial/organizational psychology to assess political institutions for better equity.
Notable achievements include securing federal grants for job growth and military transitions as Director of Economic Development for Washington's Military and Defense sector; sponsoring progressive policies like paid family leave, long-term health care for seniors, environmental justice directives, affordable childcare, educator housing, and Career Connect apprenticeships; and serving as Statewide Veterans Constituency Coordinator for U.S. Senator Patty Murray. She first won election in 2016 , resigned in 2020 to run for Congress , and reclaimed the seat in 2022.
