Biography
Kristian Grant is a Democratic state representative for Michigan's 82nd House District, which includes portions of East, Southeast, and South Grand Rapids, as well as part of Wyoming in Kent County. Born and raised in Grand Rapids, she is a dedicated public servant, community advocate, entrepreneur, and proud mother committed to housing, economic development, and education. Notable achievements include passing 15 bills through the House, with 10 signed into law by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, focusing on housing, gun reform, economic growth, child welfare, workforce protections, and criminal justice reform. She received the 2024 William Glenn Trailblazer Giants Award and was named one of MLive’s “Women Who Shape the State” in 2022. Currently in her second term , she serves as minority vice chair of the Economic Competitiveness Committee and on Regulatory Reform and Transportation & Infrastructure committees.

- Professional Background: Real estate entrepreneur investing in urban redevelopment; owner of Sydney's Boutique ; Program Manager for Schools of Hope at Heart of West Michigan United Way ; Donor Development Manager at ArtPrize ; Director of Curriculum and Program Development at Mini Mogul Academy ; Trust Administrator and Loan Signing Agent at Grant Notary and Trust Services ; Mortgage Loan Originator at Quicken Loans .
- Political Experience: Youngest person ever elected to the Grand Rapids Public Schools Board of Education , serving six years including two as board chair, leading strategic planning and city-school partnerships. First term : Majority vice chair of Economic Development & Small Business Committee and chair of Housing Subcommittee; served on Insurance & Financial Services, Regulatory Reform, and Tax Policy committees. Served on local boards including Grand Rapids Master Plan Committee, Southtown Corridor Improvement Authority, Promise Zone Authority, Convention Arena Authority CIG, SmartZone Local Development Finance Authority, and Downtown Grand Rapids Inc.
