Kris Kobach

Kris William Kobach is the 45th Attorney General of Kansas, a Republican serving statewide since January 9, 2023. He previously held statewide office as the 31st Kansas Secretary of State from 2011 to 2019.

Born March 26, 1966, Kobach was raised in Topeka, Kansas, graduating from Washburn Rural High School. He rose to national prominence as a hardliner on immigration, litigating high-profile cases including defenses against the ACLU, the first challenge to President Obama’s DACA program in 2012, and suits against Biden administration policies on vaccine mandates, Title IX regulations, and benefits for undocumented immigrants. Notable achievements include leading President Trump’s 2017 Presidential Commission on Election Integrity, securing injunctions against federal regulations as Attorney General, and being elected Chairman of the Republican Attorneys General Association in 2024. He lives near Lecompton with his wife, Heather, and their five children.

Education and Political Experience

  • Education: Undergraduate degree in government from Harvard University ; Ph.D. in politics from University of Oxford ; J.D. from Yale Law School .
  • Political Experience: Overland Park City Council member; 2004 Republican nominee for Kansas's 3rd congressional district; Kansas Secretary of State , where he implemented strict voter ID laws; elected Kansas Attorney General in 2022.
