Biography
Kim Schrier is a Democratic representative serving Washington's 8th Congressional District, which includes much of King, Pierce, Kittitas, Chelan, and Snohomish Counties, along with a small portion of Douglas County. Born on August 23, 1968, she is a pediatrician, wife, and mother with deep roots in her community. Prior to her election to Congress, Schrier spent 17 years as a pediatrician in Issaquah, working with children across the Puget Sound region and helping families navigate the health care system.
Schrier was first inspired to pursue a healthcare career after being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age 16, which gave her firsthand experience with health insurance and prescription drug costs. In 2013, she was named Best Pediatrician in the Greater Seattle Area by Parents Map Magazine.
Education
Schrier is a product of public education from elementary through medical school. She graduated from UC Berkeley as a Phi Beta Kappa member and spent a year working at the EPA before attending medical school at UC Davis School of Medicine. She completed her residency at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford University.
Political Experience
Schrier was elected to Congress on November 6, 2018, and has served in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2019. She holds the distinction of being the first pediatrician in Congress and the first pro-choice woman doctor in Congress.
