Biography
J. Kevin Stitt is the 28th Governor of Oklahoma, serving since January 14, 2019. Born on December 28, 1972, in Milton, Florida, he is a fourth-generation Oklahoman who grew up in Norman, Oklahoma. A businessman before entering politics, Stitt founded Gateway Mortgage Group in Tulsa in 2000 with $1,000 and a computer, growing it into a top national mortgage servicer operating in over 40 states with more than $20 billion in mortgages. In 2018, he led a merger forming Gateway First Bank, one of Oklahoma's 10 largest banks by assets. In his first political run, he won the 2018 Republican primary runoff and general election with a record number of votes, defeating Democrat Drew Edmondson. As governor, he leads with a "Top Ten" vision for Oklahoma in job growth, education, infrastructure, and more. Notable achievements include building the state's largest savings account , delivering tax cuts, reforming executive agencies, appointing a record number of female cabinet secretaries and private-sector experts , record education investments, teacher pay raises, school choice expansion, reducing prison population by 25% while closing facilities, and improving law enforcement resources. He serves as Vice Chair of the National Governors Association and Commander-in-Chief of the Oklahoma National Guard. Stitt and his wife Sarah have been married 25 years and have six children; his mother is a Cherokee Nation citizen.
