Biography
Kevin Ritter is a Republican member of the Ohio House of Representatives, representing the 94th District, which includes Washington and Meigs Counties as well as most of Athens County. Born on August 5, 1967, in the Detroit area, he was elected in 2024 after defeating Democrat Wenda Sheard with 69.3% of the vote, succeeding term-limited incumbent Jay Edwards. He previously served as Washington County Commissioner from 2019 to 2024 and currently holds positions as Vice Chair of the House Committee on Workforce and Higher Education and a member of the House Committee on Finance. Notable positions include support for pro-life policies, Second Amendment rights, parental input in education, and policies to support the oil and gas industry.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Attended Central Michigan University on a baseball scholarship, earning a bachelor's degree in History and Political Science in 1990 and a master's degree in Political Science in 1992; pursued but did not complete a PhD in Modern European History at Western Michigan University.
- Professional Background: Taught American history and government at Ohio Valley University, Washington State Community College, and four colleges total; co-founded Veritas Classical Academy ; founded Coast to Coast Athletics sports marketing company; popular public speaker with hundreds of lectures.
- Political Experience: Elected Washington County Commissioner in 2018 ; elected to Ohio House District 94 in 2024, began first term in January 2025.
- Personal: Married to Khadine, with two children, Liam and Anna; resides in Marietta, Ohio.
