Biography
Kevin Norwood is a Republican representative for District 74 in the Oklahoma House of Representatives, covering parts of Rogers and Tulsa counties, including the communities of Owasso and Tulsa. A lifelong Oklahoman originally from Muskogee, he was elected in a June 2025 special election, defeating Democrat Amy Hossain with 64.6% of the vote, after winning the Republican primary against Sheila Vancuren. He succeeded Rep. Mark Vancuren, who resigned, and is term-limited in 2038. Norwood serves on committees including Administrative Rules , Appropriations and Budget , Insurance, and Wildlife.
Education and Political Experience
Norwood holds a bachelor’s degree in pastoral ministry from Southwestern Christian University in Bethany, a master’s degree in applied theology from Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, and a doctorate in global leadership from George Fox University in Portland, Oregon.
His career spans over 30 years in youth ministry, starting in 1987 as a youth minister at Lakeside Assembly in Oklahoma City. In 1994, he moved to Owasso, where he founded a youth ministry that grew from 12 to over 200 students. He developed a peer-to-peer leadership model called Family Groups, mentoring students for leadership, ministry, and missions. Through his nonprofit, he delivers mental health-focused assemblies in public schools and supports youth pastors. This is his first elected office.
