Kevin D. Chambliss is a Democratic member of the Florida House of Representatives representing District 117 . Born on June 8, 1981, in Columbus, Mississippi, he moved to Florida in 2010 and resides in Homestead with his spouse, Leah Chambliss, and their children: Montrell Johnson, Adam Chambliss, Mia Johnson, Kevin Chambliss Jr., and Kayla Chambliss. A Christian, he works as a government aide and is affiliated with organizations including the NAACP, South East Dade Ministerial Alliance, Miami-Dade County Democratic Executive Committee, South Dade NAACP, Florida Conference of Black State Legislators, National Conference of Black State Legislators, and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.

Notable achievements include serving as Vice-Chair of the Miami-Dade County Legislative Delegation and past President of the South Dade Democratic Black Caucus – Ron Brown Chapter. His current committee roles include Democratic Ranking Member of the Economic Infrastructure Subcommittee and Select Committee on Hurricane and Resiliency & Recovery, plus membership on the Budget Committee, Commerce Committee, Insurance & Banking Subcommittee, Judiciary Committee, Agriculture & Natural Resources Appropriations Subcommittee, Choice & Innovation Subcommittee, Higher Education Subcommittee, and Energy, Communications & Cybersecurity Subcommittee. First elected in 2020, he is serving terms through 2028.

Education and Political Experience

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Jackson State University; attended graduate school at Northern Illinois University .
• Early Political Experience: At NIU, served as Vice President of the NIU College Democrats, President of the Young Democrats of DeKalb County, and member of the NIU NAACP Executive Board. Elected as a DeKalb County Board Member , where he led efforts to create a county Diversity Statement and developed municipal action plans.
• Florida Legislative Service: Elected to the Florida House in 2020 and reelected subsequently, focusing on economic infrastructure, hurricane resiliency, judiciary, and appropriations matters.
