Biography

Senator Kenya Wicks ** represents **Georgia's 34th Senate District, covering portions of Clayton and Fayette counties. Elected in November 2024 and sworn in on January 13, 2025, she serves as Deputy Minority Whip for the Senate Democratic Caucus and holds committee roles including Veterans, Military and Homeland Security; Science & Technology; Urban Affairs; Public Safety; and Government Oversight.

Kenya Wicks is a retired U.S. Army Major with 30 years of service, enlisting and rising to Sergeant First Class before commissioning through Officer Candidate School in 2008. A devoted mother of three sons and owner of a golden doodle named Major, she is an active community advocate, serving as Vice Chair of the Fayette County Democratic Committee, working with the Fayette Democratic Women’s Organization and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., and volunteering as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for foster children. Before her election, she worked as Chief of Staff for outgoing Sen. Valencia Seay.

Education and Political Experience

  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science from the University of Alabama .
  • Political Experience: Won the 2024 Democratic primary runoff against Valencia Stovall and the general election against Republican Andrew E. Honeycutt to represent District 34. Appointed Deputy Whip for the Senate Democratic Caucus and Vice Chair of the Clayton County Senate Delegation.
