Biography
Ken Ivory - Utah House Representative
Ken Ivory is a Republican representing Utah House District 39, which covers portions of West Jordan, Sandy, South Jordan, Midvale, and Murray. He was born in Mt. Pleasant, Utah in 1963 and grew up in Tempe, Arizona, where he graduated from McClintock High School in 1981.
Ivory is married to Becky, whom he met in 1988. Becky is a past recipient of the Golden Apple Teacher Award. Together they have four children and three grandchildren.
Education and Service
Ivory holds a Juris Doctor degree and maintains a general business, civil litigation, and estate planning law practice. He also served as an adjunct professor at Utah Valley University teaching American Federalism.
Political Experience
Ivory was elected to the Utah House of Representatives in November 2010, representing District 47. He served for nine years in the legislature before resigning in August 2019.
Before his election, Ivory served a mission for the LDS Church in Guatemala.
Notable Achievements and Positions
Ivory is best known for his work on public lands policy and federalism issues. He chairs the National Center to Restore the Balance of Government for the American Legislative Exchange Council , which honored him as the national state legislator of the year in 2014. He authored the book "Where's the Line? How States Protect the Constitution."
In 2011, Ivory presented model legislation to ALEC regarding land transfers, and the following year he sponsored Utah's Transfer of Public Lands Act. He was also involved in founding the American Lands Council, a nonprofit organization focused on public lands issues in the Western United States.
