Biography

Ken Calvert represents California's 41st Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives, a seat he has held since 1993. Born on June 8, 1953, in Riverside County, California, he is a lifelong resident of the area and a former small business owner in the restaurant and real estate industries for 17 years. The district spans Riverside County, including cities such as Corona, Norco, Lake Elsinore, Palm Springs, Palm Desert, and others. He previously represented the 42nd, 43rd, and 44th districts and serves as the Dean of the California Republican Delegation. Notable achievements include chairing the Resources Subcommittee on Water and Power, where he introduced H.R. 2828, the Water Supply, Reliability, and Environmental Improvement Act, reauthorizing the CALFED Bay-Delta program; leadership on issues like energy, environment, agriculture, and military support; and priorities such as water solutions, infrastructure reforms, and veterans' promises.

Education

Calvert graduated from Corona High School in 1971. He attended Chaffey College for two years before earning a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from San Diego State University in 1975.

Political Experience

Calvert chaired the Riverside County Republican Party from 1984 to 1988 and was first elected to Congress in 1992, making him one of its most senior members. His committee roles have included Chairman of the Science Subcommittee on Energy and the Environment , service on the House Armed Services, Resources, and Science Committees, and oversight of federal water rights and hydropower as Water and Power Subcommittee Chairman. He has led on bipartisan reforms for environmental laws, earthquake early warning systems, and pro-growth economic policies.
